Cesc: Spain have to be united

Cesc Fabregas has called on the Spain squad to pull together in the face of criticism following the defeat to Slovakia.

La Roja on Sunday play Luxembourg in their latest Euro 2016 qualifier and have been rounded on in the last few days.

Iker Casillas has been the target of much criticism after his mistake in the 2-1 reverse but Cesc came to the defence of the goalkeeper.

“We know Iker and there’s not much to say. The Madrid Press know him. He’s strong and dedicated 100% to his team,” Cesc said, AS reports.

“He’s a great teammate and a great captain. When things don’t go as usual, then you’re not as usual, but there’s no need to over-dramatize.

“He’s experienced enough to know that everything isn’t too good or too bad. He’s calm and we all know we could have played better.

“In difficult times we have to insulate ourselves from what is said on television. We’re not interested at any time and now we have to be more united than ever.

“What these people say is the opposite of what we need. We’ve played three games after the World Cup but it feels like 20.”
