Lionel Messi’s arrival in China for Argentina’s friendly with Brazil in Beijing has caused a furore in the Far East.
The Barcelona star and Argentine captain was greeted by hundreds of fans at airport in the Chinese capital and later at the hotel where the team are staying before Saturday’s game, which is being dubbed the ‘Superclasico of the Americas’.
Numerous supporters also gathered at the training ground where Gerard ‘Tata’ Martino’s squad are preparing for the encounter, hoping to catch a glimpse of players such as Messi, Javier Mascherano and others who figured in the World Cup Final in Brazil this summer.
Following the fixture in Beijing, the Argentine contingent will travel to Hong Kong where they will face a local team to round off their tour of Asia.
