Tino: Victor’s job safe – for now

Deportivo la Coruna President Tino Fernandez says boss Victor Fernandez’s job is safe – at least for the time being.

The Galicians are currently bottom of La Liga having picked up just four points from the opening seven games, their second worst-ever start to a Primera season, and were jeered off the pitch by fans after last week’s 1-0 home defeat to Almeria.

However, Tino told Onda Cero he remains confident in the Coach’s ability to turn things around, before reserving some harsh words for the players.

“Right now the issue of Victor Fernandez’s dismissal has not been raised, but it’s a results business and that’s what I look at.

“The players need to show more attitude and intensity. We can’t go out and defend as we have been doing. In the Primera you can’t play with a 90 horsepower diesel engine.

“With 25 per cent of my attitude Deportivo would be in seventh or eighth place and not last,” he proclaimed.

Some supporters showed their displeasure at the present regime on Monday, when slogans demanding the resignation of both the President and the Coach were painted on the walls at Riazor.
