FIFA could reduce Suarez’s ban

A FIFA official has refused to rule out a reduction in Luis Suarez’s ban for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup.

Eugenio Figueredo, a FIFA Vice-President, has revealed that an appeal could see Barcelona striker Suarez back before October 25, when his four-month suspension from all football-related activities and nine-game international ban for official matches is due to end.

“When a little more time has passed we will look at how, politically, this punishment can be softened,” intimated Figueredo to Uruguayan television station Channel 12.

“It was impossible to have the sanction reduced initially because it was based on solid foundations that were impenetrable from every angle. Therefore, any efforts made at the time were useless.

“However, Suarez is now in a much more comfortable environment,” he said, in reference to his new club.
