Ramos calls for Madrid ‘togetherness’

Sergio Ramos called for his Real Madrid teammates to work together after conceding yet another set-piece goal.

This time it was in Los Blancos’ laboured 2-1 Champions League victory over Ludogorets in Sofia, when the home side broke the deadlock from a corner that neither goalkeeper Iker Casillas nor the back four managed to clear.

However, Ramos pointed out that the whole team needs to defend and not just those at the back.

“We have to improve things and it’s too early to draw conclusions, although we must be self-critical, but we all need to defend together for us to suffer less,” he told reporters post-match.

“There are going to be thousands of opinions and we’ll have to live with them, so we need to improve in that sense and put maximum effort in so it doesn’t happen again.”

Madrid also conceded a goal from a set-piece against Atletico Madrid and two more at Real Sociedad, going on to lose both games, and it is something Ramos feels needs to be eradicated.

“When it comes to defending for 90 minutes it’s a long time and there are occasions when we must be more compact so we can defend our lines.

“We’ve got time and we must improve on this,” he added.
