Celta ace targets European place

Celta Vigo midfielder Fabien Orellana has revealed he is eyeing a European place with Os Celestes this season.

The Galicians sit sixth in the table, level on points with Real Madrid, and remain unbeaten following three wins and three draws.

It is form that has Orellana believing a top six spot is not beyond the realms of possibility for Eduardo Berizzo’s men, although he conceded that the priority is still to remain in La Primera.

“Reaching Europe with this team would be a dream come true for me. It would be very nice to play in international competition with Celta, but our goal is still top-flight safety,” the Chilean told a Press conference.

“It’s not how you start the League but how you end it and it’s a very long season, so we’ll need to work hard to get anything.

“On a personal level I’m very happy. I ended last year well, am playing in most of the games, and have the confidence of the Coach.”

Even so, the 28-year-old, who has been at Balaidos three years since his initial loan agreement after joining from Granada was rewarded with a full-time contract, acknowledged he was close to departing the club this summer.

“I was close to leaving because of a family problem back home but I’m happy in Vigo and would like to stay here for many more years, although you never know.

“If Celta wanted me to renew my contract I wouldn’t say no, yet nobody from the club has called me so far,” Orellana admitted.
