Costa wants Mourinho-Del Bosque truce

Diego Costa says he does not want a war of words to break out between Chelsea and Spain boss Vicente del Bosque over his fitness.

The former Atletico Madrid striker has been struggling for full fitness since signing for the Londoners last summer, despite his flying start to the season, with Mourinho claiming this week that he is currently incapable of playing two games in seven days.

“Diego’s doing almost nothing. He’s resting and recovering from the tight muscle he gets every time he accumulates fatigue.

“I think if he doesn’t go to the national team and stays here for two weeks of treatment it will make the muscle stronger, and other areas around it.

“I think he has the perfect chance to be on top form for both Chelsea and Spain,” said Mourinho.

However, Costa is keen to play down an issue that could escalate if both parties disagree on his availability for selection.

“I don’t think it will happen [a war of words between Mourinho and Del Bosque]. I had enough of that issue with Brazil.

“Now I want to be left alone to do my work and play well, for both Chelsea and Spain,” he told reporters after his team’s 1-0 Champions League victory over Sporting Lisbon.

“I hope I’m well enough to join up with Spain and I played 90 minutes here, so it’s obvious that I’m okay. I’m feeling better all the time and it’s Del Bosque’s decision if he wants to pick me.

“Nonetheless, I’m still suffering from some physical discomfort and during the week I’ve been working intensively with the physios,” he admitted.
