City to hijack Sergio Ramos talks?

Manchester City could be set to hijack Sergio Ramos’ talks with Real Madrid over a new contract.

La Sexta reports that the Premier League outfit plan to offer the 28-year-old defender €10m-a-year net to quit the Santiago Bernabeu, €2m more than he is presently earning.

Although on the face of it Ramos is more inclined to stay with the Spanish giants, but City’s offer could persuade him to raise his demands for an improved offer from Los Blancos, something that would clash with the club’s wage system.

Only two players in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad are believed to earn more than €10m per season: Cristiano Ronaldo’s salary is understood to touch €20m while Gareth Bale takes home almost €11m.

Behind this pair come Ramos, Iker Castillas and Karim Benzema, with contracts in the vicinity of €8m.

Spain international Ramos’s current agreement runs until June 2017 after he signed a six-year extension in 2011, with Madrid desperate to ensure he remains with them until he is ready to retire.
