Athletic Bilbao are bottom of Champions League Group H after a 2-1 defeat away in Belarus against BATE Borisov.
Denis Polyakov and Aleksandr Karnitski scored for the home side with Aritz Aduriz on target for Los Leones, but an equaliser evaded Ernesto Valverde’s side.
Shakhtar Donetsk and Porto drew 2-2 in the group’s other game leaving Athletic as the only side with just a point to their name. Porto top the table with BATE second on three points and Shakhtar third with two.
Polyakov netted from close range after Athletic failed to deal with a corner before Karnitski beat Gorka Iraizoz with a left-footed effort. Aduriz scored before half-time from an Iker Muniain assist but Athletic couldn’t get back in the game.
Valverde made two half-time changes in an attempt to change his side’s fortunes but chances for Ander Iturraspe, Markel Susaeta and Aduriz went begging.
