Marchisio up for Atleti challenge

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio is optimistic about his side’s chances in their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.

The pair meet at the Vicente Calderon on Wednesday and the Italian international feels a win for the Serie A giants would strike an important blow for Massimiliano Allegri’s men, given Atleti lost their opening group game to Olympiacos.

“It’s a very delicate challenge and we must look for a good result as beating a great team like Atletico would give us a lot of confidence,” affirmed Marchisio in declarations to Sky Sport and broadcast by Juventus’ official website.

“To put six points between us and them would represent a major step towards qualification, even if the result of the first game in Athens shows us there are no easy games, while Olympiacos could also pose problems.

“In the last three years we have lacked a certain quality in Europe. However, this time we have started well with a home win, whereas in recent times we’ve missed out on some good opportunities.”

Regarding his own role in the Juventus midfield, the 28-year-old admits he feels the Coach has total confidence in him.

“This is important because it allows me to feel relaxed and play in any position he asks me to,” explained Marchisio.
