‘La Real were better than Valencia’

Real Sociedad Coach Jagoba Arrasate believes his side deserved three points from Sunday night’s draw with Valencia.

La Real had to settle for a point with Sergio Canales cancelling out Carles Gil’s opening goal, Arrasate telling reporters post-match that of the two teams, it was the visitors to Anoeta hanging on.

“It’s always good to add a point but I think we were better than Valencia,” AS reports Arrasate as saying.

“I’m sure they are happier with the point. But we showed we are alive and capable of doing great things.

“We lacked some fluidity and consistency. But we played against a great team and we competed very well for 60 or 70 minutes.”

Arrasate conceded however that he needs to get to the bottom of his side’s poor away form and was at a loss to explain why Sociedad are so much stronger at home.

“This is clearly something we need to correct,” he continued.

“We have to capture everything we do right at home and go out to win [against Espanyol].

“It’s not good that we concede first. We will work on these things. Their goal was a blow and gave them a chance of winning the game.

“Maybe our League position isn’t good enough. We want more points. But the results will come if we do things in today’s game most of the time. We’ve done well here.”
