Emery: Atletico deserved it

Sevilla Coach Unai Emery had no complaints after seeing his side beaten by four goals against Atletico Madrid.

Emery told reporters after the match that Sevilla went to Vicente Calderon in good form and in search of a positive result, but the hosts deserved the emphatic win.

“We knew there’d be a lot of constraints to beat them but we worked before the game and we were feeling good,” AS reports Emery as saying.

“They were better in both phases of the game. We couldn’t stop their pressure. They were the better team.

“At 2-0 they were very strong defensively. A defeat like this must give us the humility we need. We have to know what our League is.

“Atletico are a step ahead of us. They deserve to be. We know these teams will challenge us but we can’t let it move us from our path. We must move forward.”

Emery was questioned as to the changes he made to his side, Sevilla having gone into the game in good form.

“Both teams made changes. Who wins decides who was right. I was surprised not to play [Raul] Garcia or [Antoine] Griezmann,” he replied.

“They are a team that few know how to play against and lots of teams have failed against them, such as Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid.

“We couldn’t have played like against Cordoba. But the changes didn’t determine the game. Atletico did that.”
