‘Atletico have to be almost perfect’

Atletico Madrid have to have an ‘almost perfect’ season to retain the title, according to Coach Diego Simeone.

Simeone returned to the touchline following a lengthy ban for last night’s game against Sevilla and watched the champions dispatch the visitors with a 4-0 victory.

Cholo had before the match called for the Vicente Calderon crowd to get behind the team after an unhappy experience in the previous home game, and thanked the supporters following the match for acceding to his wishes.

“This is the environment we need in every game at the Calderon,” Simeone said, Marca reports.

“It vibrates differently and feels like everyone’s on the pitch, the fans and the players acting as one big block.

“I’m thrilled to be back on the pitch, to be in direct contact with the players.”

The result puts Atletico two points behind leaders Barcelona and asked if they can hold onto the title, Simeone lamented the differences between his side, Barca and Real Madrid.

“The differences can be mitigated in a single game against them, but in a long season it’s very difficult to beat them,” he admitted.

“It requires doing things almost perfectly, as we did last year.”
