Marcelino was pleased with Villarreal’s performance on the whole against Real Madrid, but lamented the mindset that led to defeat.
Los Blancos took a 2-0 win from El Madrigal thanks to goals from Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo, scoring twice from three shots on target – compared to Villarreal’s no goals and five shots.
“Real Madrid were very effective with their shots and we weren’t,” Marcelino complained after the match, according to AS.
“If you’re losing 1-0 after 32 minutes you know you’re not going to win. It was clear.
“Until then we had chances. It’s difficult for a team like us to have so many crosses.
“We have to be more intense because we can’t allow the two goals we conceded today. It’s a real shame because we feel we did lots of other things today that deserved a result.”
