‘Match-fixing? We must’ve hid it well…’

Elche Coach Fran Escriba had no time for allegations of match-fixing around his club, relating to last season’s win over Malaga.

It was alleged in yesterday’s Spanish Press that Elche’s Round 36 win at La Rosaleda was under suspicion but speaking after his team lost at home to Celta Vigo on Friday night, Escriba dismissed the speculation and offered to work with the investigators.

“I refer you to the club’s statement. We’re available to everyone who needs us,” he said, AS reports.

“We were in Malaga and a man short for the last 15 minutes [Alberto Botia was actually sent off in the 84th minute], and with six or seven minutes left we couldn’t get out of our area.

“If that is rigged, how well we disguised it. I’ll limit myself to the more correct statement of my club.”
