‘Getafe didn’t deserve to lose’

Cosmin Contra believes Getafe were hard done by as they lost to Espanyol and now wants his team to recover for a crucial game against Malaga.

Sergio Garcia and Christian Stuani scored for Espanyol, both goals coming in the second half of the contest.

Contra described the visit of Javi Gracia’s side on Sunday as akin to a final, the first of the League campaign.

It comes with El Geta on a run of three straight defeats, with Contra calling for his side to sort out their heads in the next few days.

“We’re in a bad place because we’re in a bad dynamic of three consecutive losses but we did our job [against Espanyol],” Contra said, according to AS.

“We lost a game we never deserved to lose. But football is about scoring goals and the team who won was more accurate.

“The opposition waited for their chance and they have a great player in Garcia. In the first half he had chances and in the second he scored.”

Contra particularly rued Stuani’s goal as not only the decisive one, but the most troubling goal as it was his team at fault.

“The second goal came because of a series of mistakes by my players,” he lamented.

“These are specific points during the match that condemn us. We’ve had no luck with injuries and only a few chances to score a goal, stay in front and win games.

“In 48 hours we have the first final of the League. We have to recover mentally.”
