Pedro Leon row at Getafe intensifies

Pedro Leon has once more been left out of the Getafe squad as Cosmin Contra’s men prepare for Thursday’s game at Espanyol.

The Madrid outfit had originally chosen not to register the winger [pictured, left] in their squad for this season after inviting offers for him over the summer, while to do so would have contravened the Spanish League’s (LFP) financial regulations that have capped Getafe’s wage bill at €17m for the 2014-15 campaign.

With no concrete offers forthcoming, Leon has so far found himself without a team and has taken his case to the Spanish Professional Footballers’ Association (AFE) in the hope of being registered.

However, the LFP have informed Getafe that the player cannot be selected despite AFE chief Luis Rubiales confirming on Wednesday that legal action would be taken.

“The player has a licence and the right to play football, which is his profession. We view this situation with sadness because of the LFP’s attitude, which is causing confusion and overstepping the limits of its functions,” said Rubiales.
