Ronaldo thanks Madrid teammates

Cristiano Ronaldo has thanked his Real Madrid teammates for helping him score four goals in the 5-1 win over Elche.

Ronaldo converted two penalties among his haul as well as giving one away as Fran Escriba’s side took the lead at Santiago Bernabeu.

There was widespread surprise that a penalty was given against Ronaldo as there didn’t look much in the incident with Pedro Mosquera, but the forward said after the match the decision was the right one.

“I complained to the referee but it was a penalty, I have to admit,” he said, AS reports.

“It happened very quickly but it was a correct decision.

“The game was very good. We didn’t start that well and I gave away a penalty but we responded well, with two quick goals.

“To score four goals is very hard. I thank my teammates for setting me up. I’ve done it two or three times. Thanks to my teammates for helping me. This match ball is for my son.”

Ronaldo was asked about some of the decisions made by Carlo Ancelotti, both the selection of Keylor Navas over Iker Casillas and the absence of a recognised striker against Elche, with Ronaldo often the central forward.

“They are the Coach’s decision and we have to respect them. He made rotations and wanted me to play as a forward,” Ronaldo replied.

“We can’t always talk about the same things. Iker and Keylor are the best goalkeepers in the League. That theme is tired. The important thing is to keep going and improve. The goalkeepers issue is closed.”
