Espanyol striker Felipe Caicedo admits he is still not 100 per cent fit despite scoring in the 2-2 draw with Malaga at the weekend.
The Ecuador international, snapped up on a free transfer from Al-Jazira over the summer, picked up a heel injury during pre-season and believes he is still coming to terms with the demands of La Liga.
“I’m still not quite right but I’m getting better and have less pain. The doctors say it will disappear slowly but it’s an uncomfortable injury and will continue like this for a few more weeks, although I’ll need to put up with it if I want to play,” he confirmed to Sport.
Caicedo managed an hour against Malaga before being replaced but is already looking forward to Thursday’s clash with Getafe and the chance to pick up a valuable three points.
“A win would give us a new lease of life. In the Malaga game the idea was to get the points and we are still a little affected by the result. We worked very well but they equalised from a disputed free-kick,” he claimed, while acknowledging that Los Periquitos need to improve on the two points they have picked up so far.
“We are uncomfortable with the results because we want to win. We look at the table and know we cannot afford to relax,” said Caicedo, who confirmed that the players are behind boss Sergio Gonzalez.
“Sergio always looks relaxed and knows how to handle this situation well. He has been a player and knows about the pressure, so we are very comfortable with him.”
