Marcelino calls for League focus

Villarreal Coach Marcelino wants his team to put the Europa League out of mind when they play Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

The Yellow Submarine drew 1-1 with Borussia Monchengladbach in midweek and Marcelino told his pre-match Press conference that he is intrigued to see how the players do as they switch focus.

“It’s normal they’re motivated for the Europa League. Now we have to see how we adapt to return to the League,” Marca reports Marcelino as saying.

“We’re a team with few players used to playing in both competitions and for many of them, it’s a first.”

Marcelino is also wary of Rayo, who, despite a summer squad overhaul, he feels are a dangerous proposition.

“They’re a team in training with 17 signings and that’s always difficult and takes time,” he continued.

“But except in the last match against Elche, when a series of things went against them, they took a good result against Atletico Madrid and they deserved victory, if anyone did.

“They’re a bold team and attack in numbers, they use very fast attacks and we have to be careful.”
