Ancelotti: Ronaldo is a phenomenon

Carlo Ancelotti praised Cristiano Ronaldo in particular and Real Madrid in general after the 8-2 win over Deportivo La Coruna, but only to a point.

Ronaldo claimed a hat-trick at Riazor while Gareth Bale and Javier Hernandez both scored twice and James Rodriguez got his first La Liga goal for the club.

Haris Medunjanin and Toche were on the score sheet for the home side but it was Ronaldo’s opening goal that Ancelotti believed proved crucial.

“Until the first goal the game was balanced. Deportivo had a good defence before then,” the Coach said, AS reports.

“Cristiano’s goal opened spaces and that made our forwards more difficult to control. Anyway, we played with more intensity. The game was determined by the amount of chances we had.

“[In Ronaldo] we have a phenomenon and players of great skill who combine well together. That’s the beauty of this game.”

Madrid had suffered two consecutive League defeats prior to visiting A Coruna, but Ancelotti believes both this game and the midweek 5-1 win over Basel in the Champions League was an adequate reaction to the poor results, yet no more than that.

“We have to improve. Here we have shown the quality we have and the ability to score in many ways, but we have to improve the consistency and balance,” he continued.

“After two defeats, we’ve scored 13 goals and that shows we have reacted well.”

Madrid are still three points behind Barcelona and could be six adrift should La Blaugrana beat Levante later today, a situation with which Ancelotti isn’t concerned.

“We’ve fixed the problems, not the points,” he admitted.

“The season is very long. The disadvantage is not a problem.”
