Sergio: I deserve Espanyol job

Sergio has hit out at critics of his inexperience, insisting he deserves to be Coach of Espanyol and is in the post for a reason.

Espanyol have yet to win a game under Sergio’s leadership after the former midfielder was over the summer named successor to Javier Aguirre.

Another chance at a first victory comes on Saturday at home to Malaga with the Coach lashing out at his pre-match Press conference.

“The players are aware that the level of training isn’t what we’re getting at the weekend,” he said, according to Marca.

“I’m very calm. I’m young but I’m here for a reason. I deserve this job. I ask for the same treatment as a Coach with more of a name.

“I understand [the Press] have doubts but to question the Coach every day is preventable.

“By not having the results we want we’ve restricted the level the team can feel comfortable. In life it’s important to take one step back to take two steps forward.”
