Iago Aspas keen to get Sevilla chance

Sevilla’s striker Iago Aspas says he is keen to make an impact at the Sanchez Pizjuan but admits it ‘kills him’ when he is not playing.

The 27-year-old is on a season-long loan from Liverpool after enduring a disappointing year at Anfield last term, yet has seen just seven minutes action so far with his new club.

However, the former Celta Vigo man is determined to force his way into Unai Emery’s starting line-up.

“Last year I hardly got a chance and these last few weeks I’ve been doing my best to force my way in. I love football, I live for it, and it kills me when I am not playing,” he told Sevilla’s official website.

The Galician faces a tough struggle to gain a regular berth, but feels the increased competition for places benefits the team.

“The side benefits and that’s good for everyone. The Europa League is coming up and that is where you look at the depth of this squad, the good team we have and the good work [director of football] Monchi did last summer.

“We are hopeful of regaining the title. It will be difficult and the road is long, but it would be a dream,” admitted Aspas, who also had words of praise for the Sevilla fans.

“It was important to achieve the three points against Getafe and also Valencia, where we had a setback and they pushed us to the end.

“However, when you are on the pitch you feel the fans behind you and that makes you go that bit further,” he confessed.
