Zidane ponders French job

Zinedine Zidane has dropped a broad hint that he could one day be interested in becoming boss of the French national team.

As a player, Zidane scored two goals in France’s victory over Brazil in the 1998 World Cup Final and was also a European Championship winner in 2000.

Asked in an interview published in French daily La Provence if he might be interested in his country’s top job, he did not rule anything out.

“I’m ambitious. Now I am a Coach [with Real Madrid’s B side Castilla] I get asked if I’d like to be the national team boss. Why not?” replied Zidane.

“I’m not permitted to say that I can be boss but, since I am on the other side, it is a possibility.”

The former Real Madrid player was assistant to Carlo Ancelotti when the club won the Champions League last season and was appointed boss of Castilla this summer.
