Simeone bemoans ‘negative result’

Diego Simeone described Atletico Madrid’s shock 3-2 Champions League defeat at Olympiacos as a ‘negative result’ for his team.

Furthermore, the Argentine says it is vital that Los Rojiblancos start getting victories in the competition – starting with the next game.

“It was a tough game and we knew that from the start. Olympiacos are now very well-placed to qualify and that leaves us in the uncomfortable position of playing at home against Juventus, who are also well-placed,” Simeone told reporters at a post-match Press conference.

“In my opinion we attacked well and created some good opportunities in the first half, but they were also strong in attack. Olympiacos were accurate in front of goal and we were not.

“It was a game in which some individual moves hurt is. It was a negative result but we now have the chance to get something at home against rivals in our zone.”

On the reasons for the defeat, Simeone said he had no problem in naming Jan Oblak as goalkeeper in place of Miguel Angel Moya and announced that any decisions he made would be “game-by-game”.

“Against Juventus we will need to play more responsibly knowing what’s at stake but there is still a lot to play for,” he added.
