Enrique: I’d like Madrid to lose

Luis Enrique has declared that he would like eternal rivals Real Madrid to lose every game they play.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the Champions League game against APOEL on Wednesday night, the Barcelona boss was surprisingly candid when asked to give his assessment of Madrid’s season so far.

“I want my own team to play the best football possible and what the others do doesn’t interest me.

“There’s no point me telling lies about it. I’d like them to lose every game, but we have to do our own thing,” replied the former Madrid and Barca midfielder.

The 44-year-old was also invited to comment on the impact Lionel Messi and Neymar are having on the Catalans’ 100 per cent start to this term.

“Messi concentrates on the best parts of his game and always wants to score. He surprises us in every training session.

“In Neymar’s case I think he had a good season last year. He’s a spectacular player and can be even better this time around.

“To evaluate things I need to watch games afterwards but there is no need, it’s all there. When I see his commitment to the team then everything looks good,” explained Enrique, who gave his opinion on how Luis Suarez is settling in at the club.

“He’s easy to get along with and channels his energy into doing his best in training. I’m proud and happy to be able to call upon people from La Masia and also have the means to sign players like Suarez,” he declared.
