Otamendi acclaims Valencia start

Defender Nicolas Otamendi has praised the start to the season his Valencia team has made as they lie second in the La Liga table.

Los Che remain unbeaten after three games with home wins over Malaga and Espanyol coming on the back of a 1-1 opening day draw at Sevilla, and the Argentine international is already thinking about the next game away to Getafe.

“We’ve played a very important role so early in the season, having taken seven points from a possible nine, and we must take heart from that and think about the next game,” he told Valencia’s official website.

“I’m very pleased because we have been playing well. Personally, I work all week so I’m ready for the day of the match, and that makes me feel good.

“However, we have to continue working even harder because what’s done is done and we have to live for the present.”

Otamendi went on to extol the virtues of teamwork over any individual performances.

“One of my strengths is to anticipate the ball. I then try to break quickly and give it to one of the midfielders to try and create something,” he continued.

“As a defender I have the whole pitch in front of me and I have to stay focused all the time, as any lapse in concentration and the opposition can score, but my job is to try and organise the team.

“Nonetheless, we have to do things as a group because nobody wins matches on his own. That’s the way to go,” he concluded.
