Calderon: Ronaldo-United link strong

Former Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon has suggested Cristiano Ronaldo may be set for a return to Manchester United.

Calderon signed Ronaldo from the Red Devils five years ago and believes the Portuguese star is becoming increasingly disillusioned with life at the Santiago Bernabeu, prompting rumours that he could return to his former club.

“I get the impression he is fed up with the current President’s policy,” said Calderon in an interview with talkSport.

“When he arrived in Madrid with [Arjen] Robben he thought it would be good to play alongside him, but then he was sold.

“Two years ago [Gonzalo] Higuain was sold and he didn’t like that, then last year he thought it was a mistake to let [Mesut] Ozil go. The final straw was selling Xabi Alonso and Angel di Maria this summer.

“When I signed him I remember him saying he was grateful to United and had a marvellous time there, where he likes everything. It’s a great club,” added Calderon.

Ronaldo questioned current club President Florentino Perez’s transfer policy before the start of the 2014-15 campaign, although Perez has dismissed any talk of a rift saying the player’s loyalty cannot be questioned.
