Escriba: Elche deserved to win

Fran Escriba believes Elche were good value for their away win over Rayo Vallecano, praising his players’ attitude.

Goals from Edu Albacar, Jonathas and Pedro Mosquera gave the visitors three points, cancelling out a Gael Kakuta goal and a late Alberto Bueno penalty for a 3-2 triumph.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Escriba put the victory down to the intensity shown by his players.

“We played a great game against a tough opponent. We played well, were defensively strong and if not for the penalty we would have had an easier game,” AS reports the Coach as saying.

“At this ground, where it’s the tightest in the world, it’s fundamental to have intensity and we had it.

“I am very satisfied overall. I think it’s a deserved victory. Such intensity and teamwork as we have shown is what we have to have.

“They’re three important points but we know it doesn’t stop and there’s 35 more efforts yet.

“The group is calm, very calm, and that’s transmitted for good work. I see a very happy group who make sacrifices, and we’ve created a bubble from the problems we’ve had so the team doesn’t notice.”
