‘Boo Casillas? Fans are always right…’

Real Madrid defender Pepe has suggested the Santiago Bernabeu crowd was right to whistle Iker Casillas in the derby defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Atletico took a 2-1 win back to Vicente Calderon and the Madrid captain was jeered by a section of the home support.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Pepe said he didn’t hear the boos but if they were there, the opinion of the fans can’t be argued with.

“The fans are always right but I didn’t hear it,” AS reports the defender as saying.

Atletico’s first goal, from Tiago Mendes, came as Madrid failed to deal with a set-piece, a regular flaw in the side.

“We practiced defending set-pieces,” Pepe insisted.

“We work hard but perhaps we don’t concentrate enough to stop those kinds of balls. We concede a lot of goals that way.

“You have to work hard, get up and ask for the support of the fans. We need it more than ever now.

“It’s hard to find an explanation. We have to fight for everything.”
