‘Messi’s back? Was he gone?’

Artiz Aduriz has previewed Athletic Bilbao’s trip to Barcelona and says though the Basques go to Camp Nou in good heart, he’s ready for a tough game.

Aduriz insists that Athletic won’t vary their approach for the match, having last year scored the goal to give his team the lead in the corresponding fixture, only to lose 2-1.

“We’re in a good moment and we have confidence for this game,” AS reports the striker as saying.

“As always we intend to play our game. We go to Barca very well. We know what level we have and what players we have, plus new ones who have joined.

“The team is slowly under construction and it’s a very strong team with quality players.

“Last year when you lose a game it can hardly qualify as positive. I wish that goal had served a purpose.

“To score at Camp Nou you have to do things perfectly in attack and defence because you’re playing against the best players in the world, a formidable team with a lot of resources.”

Asked for his impressions of Barca and their start to the season, Aduriz replied they look to him to be in good shape.

“For now they look very good. They have new players who can contribute a lot and a high squad level, though it is under construction,” he added.

“Messi’s back? Was he gone?

“Jeremy Mathieu is an exceptional player, versatile, with some very good features. He’s very powerful and good on the ball. He fits Barca’s game like a glove.”
