Cerezo fires back at Atleti critics

Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo has fired back at critics of his team’s style of play prior to the derby with Real Madrid.

The champions have been dismissed as violent in some quarters for their approach, although Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti defended Los Colchoneros.

Speaking to Radio Marca, Cerezo lashed out at those who attack his team while thanking Ancelotti for his support.

“Ancelotti is a gentleman and he’s right, but there is a section of the Press that says Atletico play a violent game,” AS reports the President as complaining.

“And I ask those who say this to point to an Atletico player who has been banned for nine games. This isn’t a game for little girls.

“Here we have people in the media who can’t see beyond their nose. You cannot talk nonsense.

“The same violent play could be talked about with Madrid, Barcelona, Cordoba…they’re lying and hypocritical.

“You have to know how to win and how to lose. Atletico know how to lose. And when you don’t win you can’t say that we are scoundrels.”
