Jordi Alba: We needed Luis Enrique

Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba says the arrival of new boss Luis Enrique was just what was needed.

The Spanish international has played the full 180 minutes of both league games so far this season, having missed 15 La Liga matches through injury last year, and expressed his admiration for the former Real Madrid and Barca legend.

“I am having one of my best times at the club. The arrival of Luis Enrique has been a very good change. The team needed that change.

“He has a lot of character, which he showed as a player, and now it is instilled in him as a Coach,” maintained the Catalan at the inauguration of the Penya Barcelonista Alba Zona Franca on Wednesday night.

“Since he joined I looked forward to training with him because he is a person whose work as a Coach I can identify with. It shows because we are more tuned in than in other years.”

Alba also praised the start Lionel Messi has made to the new campaign as well as the emergence of youngster Munir El Haddadi.

“Leo is the one who pulls all the strings. He does not need to shut people’s mouths. We were no good at the end of last season and all everybody talked about was Leo, but I did not do too well either.

“With Munir they are saying it’s all happened too quickly. Too quickly? I wish it had gone like that for me!” he confessed.

“Your moment arrives when it arrives, and if his is now then it is because he deserves it.”
