Albentosa: Eibar can handle La Liga

Eibar defender Raul Albentosa believes the newly-promoted club can deal with anything La Liga throws at them this season.

The former Cadiz centre-back, signed by the Basques in July 2013, has started the current campaign at the heart of Los Armeros’ defence alongside Raul Navas after being one of the stars of Gaizka Garitano’s side last year.

Eibar have taken three points from their opening two games – a 2-1 win over Real Sociedad and a narrow 2-1 defeat to champions Atletico Madrid – and Albentosa believes they may surprise a few people this term.

“We have full confidence in those that were already here and where we came from, and I thought we could have won both those games. I didn’t think we were inferior to either of them, neither La Real nor Atletico,” he told a Press conference.

“I trust in this team and we can deal with anyone. The coaching staff have made it very clear what they want and we have a certain style of play, although it sometimes varies depending on the opponent.

“Fifteen months ago we were in Segunda B and now we are in La Primera. Everything is just beginning and I can see the work we put in every day in training.”

Despite the good start, the 26-year-old does not think the Eibar fans are going to raise their demands in regard to what they expect from the 2014-15 campaign.

“We must give everything we have on the pitch but winning in this division is very difficult. In any case, the supporters have already shown how they get behind us, whether we win or lose,” asserted Albentosa.
