Chicharito: Messi is behind Ronaldo

New Real Madrid signing Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez has joined the debate as to who is the world’s best footballer.

It is generally accepted that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the two standout performers in world football, but former Manchester United striker Hernandez comes down on Ronaldo’s side after seeing the Portuguese at first hand in recent weeks.

“Cristiano is better without a doubt. You’d have to be mad not to think that because he is the best. Messi is good, but he is behind…” the Mexican told the ‘El Chiringuito’ programme.

Hernandez is confident he is going to make a good impression at the Santiago Bernabeu, despite some fans doubts over his signing, and is convinced he is at the world’s best club.

“Here the doubts are something you have to come to terms with. Madrid are the best club of the 20th century, according to FIFA, and still some people argue about it.

“Only Madrid have 10 European Cups and some dare to argue about which is the best club in the world,” he maintained.

“I played at Chivas, the best team in Mexico. I played at Manchester United, the best team in England, and I will play with Real Madrid, the best team in the world. I can only see the glass half full.”

The 26-year-old says he is aware that he is up against Karim Benzema for a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting line-up, but says the challenge holds no fears.

“To compare me to Benzema does not put me under any pressure. I know that they are going to put me against him. It has already happened to me at United with Rooney, Berbatov and Van Persie.

“There is zero pressure. I’ve always been very competitive and it does not affect me at all.

“At a club like Madrid there are no excuses. The performances put you in your place and if you dream big you have to keep up with everything.

“Being professional is not just a pretty phrase. You must comply with things and playing for Real Madrid is the first miracle of my life fulfilled,” he insisted.
