David Silva defends Spain style

Spain midfielder David Silva has defended the style that has led the national team to so much success over the past few years.

Speaking in the mixed zone after the 5-1 European Championship qualifier victory over Macedonia in Valencia,

the Manchester City man told of what it is like to hear some of the negative comments that have been cited following the World Cup failure this summer.

“We have to learn to live with the criticism. At the very least there are always doubts and at this level we have to accept that, but we always try to do our best,” said Silva.

On the game, he highlighted La Roja’s attacking capability but was also self-critical.

“We won and scored goals and that was what we were asked to do, although we need to find a balance because at times because Macedonia created chances against us.

“We need to keep the ball, that’s essential, and we also need more depth. Personally I like to play in the centre but I always go where the team needs me,” he added.
