Maxwell: Barca ‘a lesson in football’

Paris Saint-Germain left-back Maxwell says that his time at Barcelona was ‘a lesson in football’.

The Brazilian international spent almost three years at the Camp Nou after signing from Inter in July 2009 and, unlike current teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he revealed that he has happy memories of his time there under Pep Guardiola.

“Barca was a real lesson in football for me. It was also a school on a tactical level and I arrived there at a fantastic time from a sporting perspective,” admitted the 33-year-old to PSG’s official website.

Maxwell, who in the group stages of the Champions League will face another of his old teams in Ajax, hopes he will have better luck in the competition than two years ago when the French outfit were eliminated by Barca in the quarter-finals.

“At the Camp Nou we showed that we were close to reaching the semi-finals and in my opinion we deserved to go through, but it’s difficult to beat Barca on the counter-attack.

“This year things will be different, but we have to show we want to go far in the competition.”
