Muniain aiming for Spain call

Iker Muniain has said seeing Munir El Haddadi called into the senior Spain side has brought home how much he wants another full cap.

Athletic Bilbao forward Muniain is the captain of the Spain Under-21 side, with La Rojita meeting Austria tomorrow night.

Muniain has told a Press conference that the target for all young players has to be to get into the senior squad, and that Munir’s involvement is a reminder that it’s not far away.

“We all have the hope of one day reaching the senior team,” AS reports Muniain saying.

“When we see one of our teammates moving up we realise how close it is.”

Muniain added that although the Under-21s have already guaranteed a place in the play-offs for the European Championships, they won’t take it easy against Austria.

“The goal is to win and get a good feeling,” he continued.

“We will go there to win and this team always has to compete at the top, whether it’s a friendly or a competitive game.”

Muniain won his one and only Spain cap in 2012, making a substitute appearance in a 5-0 win over Venezuela.
