‘Barca tried to sign Alcacer’

Barcelona made a €3m bid to sign Paco Alcacer from Valencia in 2011, reports in Spain claim.

The striker is to play for Spain tonight against Macedonia but Sport has reported that had things gone differently, he could be doing so as a Barca player.

It’s said that Oscar Garcia, then Coach of Juvenil A, identified Alcacer as a player to sign and Andoni Zubizarreta began talks with Los Che.

A €9m clause meant no deal was ever agreed, even in 2012 when Alcacer’s Valencia contract expired. He later signed a new deal that saw his clause doubled and the contract running until 2016.

If Alcacer had made the move to Camp Nou he would have joined the generation of Gerard Deulofeu and Rafinha.
