Banega wants CL for Sevilla

Ever Banega hopes to help Sevilla into the Champions League and has thanked his teammates for helping him settle at the club.

Banega moved to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan this summer after leaving Valencia and says he is feeling content with his new club.

However, the Argentine insists he shouldn’t be viewed as a replacement for Ivan Rakitic, who left Sevilla for Barcelona.

“The first game was perhaps a difficult dynamic to grasp,” AS reports Banega as saying.

“Against Espanyol I felt much better, I got on the ball a lot and I worked hard physically.

“I am very happy to be at a big club, working with my teammates, putting myself at the disposal of the Coach and working at the same level as the rest of the group.

“I’m not here to replace anyone. I come to do things in the best way I can. I’ll try to do my best and hope the fans can see it on the pitch.

“I’m at a club where everything is very beautiful. My teammates have helped me adapt very quickly. It’s a tight-knit group and that’s a good basis for the season.

“This team has a base of several years. Players come and go but the base is maintained. There is a healthy competition.

“Sevilla are a big team fighting for great things. This year we hope to do it in the best way and get into the Champions League positions.

“We’ll try to get as far as possible in all three competitions but it’s important to get into the Champions League.”
