Cesc: Casillas will know when to quit

Cesc Fabregas believes Iker Casillas deserves to be Spain’s first-choice goalkeeper and says the Real Madrid man will know when to quit.

The Chelsea midfielder was speaking at a Press conference prior to La Roja’s first Euro 2016 qualifier, against Macedonia, and also touched on the evolution of the squad following the World Cup.

“Xavi Hernandez is unique, David Villa is unique…the new players bring new things,” AS reports Cesc as saying.

“I can speak well of Munir El Haddadi. Whether he plays wide or central, we must take advantage of his virtues.

“I feel important. I came into the team when I was 18 and I’m now 27. I’ve accumulated the necessary experience and games and I’m at the perfect age.

“I’m at my best and I consider myself an important player in the national team.

“We know who we are and what we have to do. We have to be united.”

Cesc added that Spain can’t afford to take Macedonia lightly and backed Casillas to take the gloves, as has been reported he will.

“I’ve seen videos of Macedonia. They’re solid, they can defend well and they’re fast on the counter,” he warned.

“I see a committed, eager and dedicated Casillas. We all know he has had difficult times with his club but here he seems happy and well adapted.

“His character is one that when he feels he can’t give any more he will have the dignity to leave, but the time hasn’t come for him. He’s looking very good.”
