Senna backs Del Bosque plans

Former Spain international Marcos Senna believes Vicente Del Bosque is taking the right approach with the new-look squad.

Senna, a member of the Euro 2008-winning squad under Luis Aragones, added that he holds no grudge towards Del Bosque, who left him out of the World Cup 2010 squad.

“We are facing a moment of transformation. Spain has a very good base and players are being incorporated into the team and they are great players,” he told AS.

“Del Bosque is aiming for a gradual change, not so radical. He’s keeping Casillas, Iniesta and other important parts.

“I was very sad for what happened but I had the opportunity to meet with him and I can’t deny he is a spectacular person.

“I have never spoken ill of him because I had no reason to do so.”

Senna took a path to the Spain squad later followed by Diego Costa, born in Brazil but playing international football for La Roja.

He added that Costa wouldn’t have taken his decision lightly and that their situations are different as he wasn’t in the Brazil squad, whereas Costa was.

“I don’t know what happened but it wouldn’t have been an easy choice,” Senna continued.

“I had to take my decision fast and at the time I felt supported by Spain. But Brazil didn’t call me. For him it was harder than anyone.”
