Mourinho ‘admires Enrique’

Jose Mourinho has said he admires Barcelona Coach Luis Enrique, revealing he was his favourite player when he worked at Camp Nou.

Chelsea manager Mourinho was speaking after catching up with Enrique at the UEFA Coaches’ forum, telling reporters he hadn’t seen Enrique in a long time.

“Luis Enrique? I have a special admiration for him. I hope he does well at Barca,” Mourinho told reporters, according to AS.

“Not only as a player but as a person. He was my favourite when I was at Barca. He could play right, left, defence, attack…he could have played goalkeeper.

“Since I left Barca in 2000 this was the first time I’ve seen him. I asked if he likes being a Coach, he said yes and I want him to be happy.”

AS add that Mourinho was seated between Enrique and Carlo Ancelotti, his Real Madrid successor, and was also seen speaking with former protégé Andre Villas-Boas and Pep Guardiola, his rival during his days in Spain.

The conversation between Mourinho and Guardiola was said to be regarding whether or not it should be mandatory that the pitch is watered before matches.

AS note the discussion got heated and brought laughter from the Coaches who were watching the exchange.
