Celades convinced by Spain style

Albert Celades has vowed to continue Spain’s style during his tenure as Under-21 Coach, which begins tomorrow against Hungary.

Celades replaced Julen Lopetegui, who took the Coach’s job at Porto, and in an interview with AS confirmed his eagerness to get going.

“I’m really excited but at the same time there is also a lot of responsibility,” he said.

“I am grateful to the RFEF for giving me this position. For those who like to work with young players there is no better position than this.

“They are top players and a great promise of our game, so we will try to qualify for the European Championship play-offs and the Olympics. It’s an exciting challenge.

“Did I expect this job? No. I learned a lot from Lopetegui, who brought many things. I wish him luck and I’m sure he’ll do well at Porto.

“The philosophy isn’t mine, it’s the Federation’s, and everyone adapts to it. We are convinced. It has given us many things.

“Spain has become the benchmark because of the titles won and how they were won. My idea of football is the same.

“And I tell you one thing, I use this style because I am convinced, not because it is required.”
