Costa vows to improve for Spain

Diego Costa has admitted he didn’t show his best for Spain at the World Cup and wants to take his Chelsea form into the national team.

Costa travelled to Brazil with La Roja but the squad were on their way home after two defeats in three games.

The Brazil-born striker left Atletico Madrid for Chelsea over the summer and has begun his career in the Premier League with three wins and four goals in three games.

“I hope to start with the national team because I didn’t meet expectations in Brazil,” he said, according to AS.

“I know I didn’t give the expected level in the World Cup, not just me but the team. What happened has happened and now we must move on.

“It’s very important to have the confidence of Vicente Del Bosque to be in a team like Spain.

“I want to do the right things to keep coming here. I have to score and play well with Spain.

“We know that Fernando Torres, David Villa and Alvaro Negredo are great strikers. One can return and there are new people coming through who can bring a lot.

“I will try to make the most of my chance with the hope I get it right.”
