Radamel Falcao has described joining Manchester United as a ‘dream come true’ despite having been linked all summer with Real Madrid.
It was confirmed overnight that Falcao has completed a loan move to United from Monaco and reports in the British Press confirm the Premier League club were not the striker’s first choice.
The Independent claim that Falcao’s advisors tried to engineer a move to Madrid but the club backed away, instead signing Javier Hernandez on loan from United for the year.
Manchester City were also contacted but concerns over adhering to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations saw the English champions reject the proposal.
That left United as the only side in the frame and it’s believed negotiations started when United dealt with Jorge Mendes over the signing of Angel Di Maria from Madrid.
A season-long loan was wrapped up on transfer deadline day and Falcao has said he is thrilled to be at United and in English football in general.
“It’s a dream come true to join a club like Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world,” the former Atletico Madrid striker added.
“I’ve always dreamt about playing for one of the truly great teams and winning lots of trophies. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and you can’t turn that down.
“I’m a huge fan of English football and watch it whenever I can. Now the reality is I’m going to play there.”
