Alonso plays down Guardiola history

Xabi Alonso has said any incidents with Pep Guardiola during his Barcelona tenure won’t matter now they’re working together.

Alonso today completed a move from Real Madrid to Guardiola’s Bayern Munich and at his farewell Press conference, was asked about Guardiola’s history with Los Blancos.

“I’ve talked to him. Starting today we’ll talk about what he wants from me,” AS reports Alonso as saying.

“What happened on the field stays there. It’s a new step and I’ve never had a problem with him.

“I’m at a stage where I want to learn more. I’ve had great Coaches, my father was a Coach and my job requires learning.

“Now I want to keep learning. You pick up things from everyone.”

Alonso was asked to explain why he chose Bayern and not a return to the Premier League, having previously played for Liverpool.

“La Decima took a load off and after that great achievement I needed something more,” he began.

“Bayern is what is best when I already had the memory of Liverpool. Going to Bayern was the better option.

“Bayern will fight for all the trophies. I really want to get started. They’re the size of Madrid.”

It was also put to Alonso that the transfer of Toni Kroos from Bayern to Madrid has pushed him out the door, a suggestion Alonso rejected entirely.

“It’s not because he has joined. Madrid have made a great signing,” he insisted.

“We both would have played a lot. This isn’t a tantrum.

“This is very thoughtful and I greatly considered this decision. Bayern are a great team and will fight for everything.”
