Marcelino: EL a nice challenge

Marcelino is excited at leading Villarreal into the Europa League after the Yellow Submarine confirmed their place in today’s group stage draw.

Villarreal last night beat Astana 4-0 to wrap up a 7-0 aggregate win and join Sevilla as the Spanish representatives in the competition after Real Sociedad were knocked out by Krasnodar.

“It’s important for the entire club to be back in the Europa League and it’s a nice challenge for everyone,” AS reports Marcelino as saying.

“Honestly, we are very happy to be in the group stage and more so because we’re playing as well as we did today.

“We’ve been at a high level and therefore have achieved a great result. You can’t ask for more.”

Marcelino added that the stature of some of the teams in the group stage is part of the excitement and he is eager to see his team play top class opposition.

“There are very good teams like Napoli, coming after playing in the Champions League, and Inter, who need no introduction,” he continued.

“What is clear is that we are going to compete with all the enthusiasm in the world and with the utmost respect.

“Hopefully we can get great results and get as far as possible.”
