Costa expected in Spain squad

Vicente Del Bosque is expected to name Diego Costa in Spain’s first post-World Cup squad despite the Chelsea striker’s injury scare.

AS reports that if Costa isn’t fit, Athletic Bilbao’s Aritz Aduriz is in line to take his place, while his Athletic Bilbao teammate Ander Iturraspe is certain to be named in the party.

La Roja play France on September 4 in a friendly and Macedonia on September 8 in their first Euro 2016 qualifier.

Costa suffered a hamstring injury in training and the severity of the problem isn’t yet known, with the English Press suggesting it is more serious than Spanish sources believe.

Fernando Llorente could return to the squad as well but AS say the squad will have most of the players from the World Cup, or the 30-man preliminary squad that was named for the tournament.

Miguel Angel Moya could get one of the goalkeeper’s spots, with Iker Casillas and David De Gea, and Raul Garcia may also feature.

Inigo Martinez, Gerard Deulofeu and Dani Carjaval are also contenders for places.
