Aritz Aduriz rated his two Athletic Bilbao goals against Napoli on par with seeing a full San Mames in the club’s successful Champions League play-off.
Aduriz scored twice and Ibai Gomez added a third to dispatch the Italians and put Athletic in the Champions League group stage for the first time in 16 years.
Marek Hamsik had first put Napoli in front on the night and on goal difference but Aduriz led the turnaround and ensured Los Leones are in today’s group stage draw.
“I felt an immense joy with my teammates. It would have been unfair it we didn’t go through because we worked all year for this,” Marca reports the striker as saying.
“For the victory and for today, the goals and the full stadium, it was all wonderful.
“We’re very, very proud of playing in the Champions League against the best teams in Europe. We’re very pleased to be going into the draw and we’ll be proud to play anywhere.”
